Art and Culture on the Gold Coast: HOTA, Festivals and Creative Spaces
The Gold Coast's arts and culture scene has developed rapidly since the establishment of HOTA (Home of the Arts) at Surfers Paradise, which opened its gallery building in 2021 and is now the cultural centrepiece of the city. The HOTA Gallery has free entry and runs a strong exhibition program including significant touring exhibitions alongside regional and contemporary Australian shows. The Bleach* Festival in early spring is the Gold Coast's flagship arts festival, featuring outdoor performances, installations and events across the city's beachfront and HOTA venue. The Gold Coast Film Festival is an annual autumn event at HOTA and other city venues. Surfers Paradise has a history of temporary public art installations through its foreshore precinct. The Hinterland has its own arts communities centred on Tamborine Mountain and Montville's studios and galleries, accessible as a day trip. Bond University's gallery and performance spaces are open to the public. The Bleach* and Gold Coast City Art Gallery programs are the best starting points for engaging with the city's creative output.
