Group exercise classes at council-run facilities: a guide
Gold Coast residents can join structured group fitness sessions at city council venues across multiple suburbs this winter.
How we reported this

Gold Coast City Council facilities will run more than 40 weekly group exercise classes starting 20 July across indoor and outdoor sites in Southport and Robina.
Interest in these sessions has grown as locals seek affordable ways to stay active amid rising private gym fees and variable weather patterns that limit beach workouts. Council data shows participation in community fitness programs increased 18 per cent in the past year, driven by residents in suburbs like Broadbeach and Nerang looking for consistent timetables rather than seasonal surf patrols.
Venues and class options
The Southport Community Centre on Scarborough Street offers morning yoga and circuit classes in its main hall, while the Robina Recreation Centre on Robina Town Centre Drive hosts evening HIIT and strength sessions in its multi-purpose rooms. Both sites include changing facilities and nearby parking, with some classes spilling onto adjacent outdoor courts when weather permits. Sessions tie into wider council efforts that also support events near Kurrawa Beach volleyball courts and Hinterland trailheads, though these particular programs stay indoors or on venue grounds.
Costs, schedules and registration
Drop-in fees sit at $14 per class, with a 10-session pass available for $120 through the council website. Timetables list 6 am boot camps on Tuesdays at Southport and 7 pm Pilates on Thursdays at Robina, with full schedules published on 10 July. Residents must register online or at the venue desk at least 48 hours ahead, and spaces fill quickly for peak evening slots.
Anyone new to the program can attend a free orientation on 18 July at either location to check equipment and meet instructors. Check the Gold Coast City Council website for exact times and updates before heading out.
