Senior Fitness Programs Offered Free by Local Council
Gold Coast City Council runs no-cost group exercise sessions for older residents at multiple venues this July.
How we reported this

Gold Coast City Council opened free senior fitness programs on 1 July at the Kurrawa Beach pavilion and the Robina Community Centre.
Older residents need reliable ways to stay active as winter temperatures drop along the coast. Council data shows participation in similar sessions rose after the 2025 network disruptions that affected triple-zero calls and daily routines. Group classes provide structure without travel costs or equipment fees.
Venues and weekly schedule
Sessions at Kurrawa Beach pavilion run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and focus on balance and light resistance moves suited to the flat sand near the volleyball courts. The Robina Community Centre hosts Monday and Wednesday classes at 10 a.m. inside the main hall, using chairs and resistance bands supplied on site. Both locations sit within easy reach of Surf Life Saving clubs that already run water-safety talks for the same age group.
Residents aged 65 and over can attend without booking ahead. Classes stay under 20 participants to keep instruction personal. The Hinterland Lamington hiking group has added a shorter flat option on Fridays at 8 a.m. starting from the Canungra trailhead for those who prefer outdoor steps.
Numbers and next steps
Council figures record 1,450 seniors took part in the 2025 winter round, a 28 percent increase from the prior year. No fees apply, and transport vouchers cover bus routes along Gold Coast Highway for anyone without a car. Residents can check the current timetable on the council website or call the community services line at 1300 000 000 before heading to either venue.
