Where to find the best parkrun near you
Gold Coast locals have multiple free Saturday 5km options that fit varied fitness levels and beachside or hinterland settings.
How we reported this

Four Gold Coast parkrun sites recorded 1,920 finishers on 4 July 2026, the highest single-week total since January.
Recent months of elevated living costs and repeated mobile outages have pushed residents toward no-cost outdoor routines that do not rely on apps or paid gyms. Parkrun events start at 7am sharp each Saturday, require only a free barcode from the national site, and finish with timed results posted online within hours.
The Kurrawa parkrun begins on Surf Parade opposite Kurrawa Beach SLSC and follows a flat two-lap course along the Broadbeach foreshore. Runners pass the volleyball courts at 800 metres and return past the surf club each lap. Further south, the Tallebudgera parkrun starts at the southern end of Goodwin Terrace in Burleigh Heads and runs north along the beach path to the Tallebudgera Creek mouth before turning back. Both events finish near the start line with water and volunteer timing mats.
Course differences worth checking
Kurrawa stays almost entirely on sealed paths and suits walkers or pram users. Tallebudgera includes one short stretch of firm sand at low tide, which adds grip but can slow times by 30 to 60 seconds. Hinterland participants sometimes drive to the Lamington area for a third option that begins at the Canungra School of Arts car park and climbs 80 metres over the 5km loop through rainforest edges. All three sites post course maps and elevation profiles on the parkrun Australia website.
National parkrun data released last month showed average weekly attendance at Australian events rose 11 percent year-on-year, with Queensland coastal sites contributing the largest share. Gold Coast events have maintained consistent volunteer numbers above 25 each week since the 2024 expansion of the Tallebudgera course. Registration remains free; the only cost is optional purchase of a $3 barcode wristband at the finish line if a runner forgets their printed copy.
Locals new to the format can arrive 15 minutes early at either Kurrawa or Tallebudgera to collect a barcode and hear the brief safety briefing. Those preferring the hinterland route should allow extra travel time along the Pacific Motorway exit at Oxenford. Next Saturday’s start lists open at 6:45am at all three locations.
