Gold Coast Startup Activity Accelerates with New AI Pilots and Co-Working Expansions

Three Gold Coast startups unveiled AI productivity prototypes this week from offices along Scarborough Street in Southport and the new hub at Oracle Boulevard in Broadbeach.

The launches follow OpenAI’s household expansion push announced earlier this month and mirror a national uptick in enterprise software funding that reached $48 million across Australian early-stage deals in the second quarter of 2026. Gold Coast founders say the timing aligns with local demand from tourism operators and health clinics seeking tools that cut administrative hours without adding cameras or recording features.

Co-working growth on the northern end

Gold Coast Tech Hub opened a second floor at its Scarborough Street location on 8 July, adding 22 desks that filled within 48 hours. Two of the new AI teams now meet there daily, including one building voice-note summarisers for medical receptionists and another testing glasses-style displays for warehouse pickers. A short drive south, the Broadbeach co-working space run by the Gold Coast Innovation Network added three meeting rooms equipped with large screens last month at a fit-out cost of $185,000.

Funding and next steps for founders

Local data released by the Gold Coast City Council on 9 July shows 14 startups raised a combined $3.1 million in the first half of the year, up from nine companies and $1.9 million in the same period of 2025. The council’s Startup Support Program, which offers matching grants up to $25,000, has already approved four applications this quarter. Founders planning to apply before the 31 July deadline can book 30-minute slots through the council’s online portal or visit the Southport office on Scarborough Street between 9am and 4pm on weekdays. Those sessions include review of pitch decks and introductions to two local angel investors active in the current round.
