Gold Coast Expands Facilities Venues and Infrastructure Supporting Sport Locally
Recent upgrades at multiple sites are increasing training access and event capacity for clubs and residents across the city.
How we reported this

The Gold Coast Performance Centre in Southport opened its new indoor training hall on 28 June, adding four full-size courts and a 200-seat viewing area for basketball and netball programs.
The expansion arrives as the city readies for increased demand from national and state-level events during the second half of 2026, with local clubs reporting waiting lists for court time that have grown 18 percent since January.
Key sites driving the changes
Cbus Super Stadium in Robina received a $12 million turf and lighting upgrade completed in April that now allows evening rugby league and soccer sessions seven nights a week. At the same time the Gold Coast City Council fast-tracked resurfacing of the hockey pitches at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre on the Gold Coast Highway in Labrador, finishing the work by early May so junior representative squads could resume full schedules ahead of the state championships.
These two projects sit alongside smaller works at the Helensvale Sports Park, where a new strength-and-conditioning shed opened last month for athletics and rugby union groups based in the northern suburbs.
Numbers behind the investment
Council records show the combined cost of the three sites reached $19.4 million, funded through a mix of state grants and venue hire revenue collected during the 2025-26 financial year. Usage data from the first fortnight after the Southport hall opened recorded 1,142 individual bookings, up from 680 in the same period last year.
Residents can check availability and book sessions through the council’s online portal or by visiting the front desk at any of the three venues before 5 pm on weekdays.
